When it meets at the Doubletree Grand Key Resort in Key West for two days next week, the state Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will consider most issues directly affecting the Keys on Dec. 4.

Turkey day is Thursday, a time for family, feast, football and a bunch of guys lounging around the living room after eating making noises that would make Tim Allen very proud while the ladies are stuck in the kitchen attempting to remove the remains of the feast from platters and pots (at least, that has been the stereotype for quite some time).

With only a brief period of calm winds during the past week, fishing was at best tough. Those anglers that were lucky enough to have timed their trips to coincide with the calm days were rewarded with some excellent times on the water.

The 13th annual Key Largo Sailfish Challenge pits anglers against sails Friday through Sunday, Jan. 2-4. The event follows a boat-tournament format.
